How does a shiplift work? Let’s find out. How did a family live and work aboard a motorised cargo ship? We’ll make our way down into the cargo hold of the MS “Franz-Christian.”
The shiplift provides people with visual impairments myriad ways to maximise sensory perception. Touching and feeling materials by hand (diving suit), sensing motion with the body (movement of the ship), treading distances (length of the trough), listening to sounds and voices (ambient sound in the ship’s hull / the machine hall), these direct experiences combined with explanations allow visitors to assemble varied impressions into a vivid understanding of the shiplift.
A sensational guided tour of the Henrichenburg Shiplift Museum awaits. Afterwards, visitors have the option to take a cruise on the passenger ship “Henrichenburg” (at additional cost).
