Food truck

On the museum grounds near the entrance is the “Gastrobus,” a 1959 English double-decker with seating inside and outdoor tables. You will have a marvelous view of the Shiplift and pier from there.

Enjoy light meals, soft drinks, draught beer, coffee specialties and freshly baked cakes alongside the unique flair of industrial heritage. With advanced booking, breakfast, lunch or buffet catering can be provided to groups.

The Gastrobus is open March to October, Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 6pm (subject to change). In the winter months, catering services are available by prior arrangement.

Arrive by car

Take the A2 Oberhausen - Hanover motorway and exit at “Castrop-Rauxel/Henrichenburg.” Then, follow signs for “Schiffshebewerk.”

Arrive by bus and train

From Dortmund main station:
Take the underground line “U 41” to ‘Brambauer Verkehrshof,’ then take bus line 284/231 (via Waltrop) to “Datteln/Wittener Straße.”

From Recklinghausen main station:
Take bus line 231 to “Datteln/Wittener Straße”

From Castrop-Rauxel main station:
Take bus line ‘SB 22’ to “Datteln/Wittener Straße”

Walk from “Datteln/Wittener Straße” (approx. 10 minutes)
Walk to the intersection and turn onto “Provinzialstraße.” Follow this road and cross over the “Lukasbrücke” bridge. A few metres after crossing the river, turn right onto “Am Hebewerk” street. This takes you directly to the museum.

Arrive by bike

You can reach the Henrichenburg shiplift using the following cycle paths:

- Emscher Park cycle path
- Dortmund-Ems Canal Cycle Route

The shiplift is Junction 32 along the radrevier.ruhr and is part of the Industrial Heritage cycle route. The shiplift is, for example, the destination point on the cycle tour ‘From Herne to the Henrichenburg Shiplift.’

Dogs on a leash are allowed in outdoor areas - excluding the playground.

Dogs are not allowed inside buildings (except guide and service dogs). The same policy applies to the passenger ship ‘Henrichenburg.’
